History of Habsburg Lipizzaners
Louise Krutzler established
Aachen~Habsburg Lipizzaners in 1980 and is assisted by
her husband Dr. Johann Krutzler in a Lipizzaner breeding
programme with the emphasis on dressage horses. Due to
an unprecedented interest in the Lipizzaner breed the
aim is to produce a quality noble Baroque horse with
wonderful performance ability, movement and “mind set”.
“Habsburg Lipizzaners” was originally
better known for its driving horses and Louise trained
many of her horses to harness and competed with them in
the 1990’s. Retired now, she focuses on producing
dressage horses from her mares, believing that the
purebred Lipizzaner for dressage is the “best kept”
secret in the country.
Aachen~Habsburg is the oldest breeder
of purebred Lipizzaners in Australia having almost 30
years experience and we welcome enquires form people
wishing to tap in on our life-long connection with the
breed. Dr. Johann Krutzler was for many years the
administrator of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna and
the Federal Stud Farm Piber. He has a wealth of
knowledge of the Lipizzaner horse that he brings from
his native Austria and is a noted historian on the
breed.
Why a Lipizzaner purebred? They are
trainable, forward going and have ability to burn.
Lipizzaners are masters of the piaffe, passage and
pirouette. These horses form strong partnerships with
the rider and once educated will be committed to the
rider for life!
The focus will now be on breeding
riding stock with the imported stallion 224 Conversano
Allegra V, which the stud farm owns and uses.
Mission
Statement
Aachen~Habsburg is
focusing it’s breeding programme on producing a modern
style of Lipizzaner suited to the requirements and
demands of Prix St George and Grand Prix dressage.
Through existing and
recently imported lines the aim is to produce a more
athletic horse with great temperament, good shoulders, a
longer leg and length of rein, whilst maintaining a
desirable baroque top line.
The genetics of the
following horses are sourced to produce a modern framed
Lipizzaner combining both classical features and an
athletic quality:
43 Siglavy Monteaura IV, a
classically baroque stallion with a lovely extended trot
19 Gaetana, a tall leggy
well boned mare with great power, stamina and a longer
rein
001 Conversano Caprriola
XIV (Slovenia), a very beautiful modern Lipizzaner
3518 Conversano Juliana
III, with a wonderful temperament, great shoulder and a
good length of leg,
The cornerstone of the
breeding programme is the imported stallion 224
Conversano Allegra V (Slovenia)which Hans and Louise
witnessed winning in the show ring in Slovakia in 2002.
He took out the prestigious “European Champion Young
Stallion” and was awarded this by some of the leading
authorities in the breed: Dr. Yvonne Peeters, Dr Russ,
Dr. Karl Heinz Kirsch and Hernn Franz Schroder. This
stallion was a “must have” horse and when he later came
up for sale, was purchased by Aachen~Habsburg. “Leo” as
he is called is by the truly captivating sire 001
Conversano Capriola XIV, a beautiful stallion of taller
proportions and a modern outline.

Foals/For Sale
Aachen~Habsburg has just
produced it’s first crop of foals by Conversano Allegra
V and in a word to describe them – impressive! They are
displaying elegance, temperament and the most desirable
movement.
All foals are imprinted
from birth and at weaning are tied float trained etc. As
yearlings they begin a more extensive handling programme
being mouthed and very basic long reining. The training
may extend to other experiences such as having harness
placed on them and having to work alongside other horses
in a leading situation. This is all part of the
“extended imprinting” that is ideal for either future
riding or driving horses. This method allows for the
horse’s ideal discipline and suitability to be sourced
and assists in producing a calmer working animal.
